I do not know what it is about rafts that are so alluring, but they never fail to attract people. Whether it is kids fighting to be the king of the raft, or older people who just want to sunbathe, they are always highly coveted real estate. Because who would want to sunbathe on the boring old beach when there is an exciting raft fifty feet out in the water?

I have grown out of my affection for rafts as I have gotten older. I do not want the attention that one gets by being out there. I would rather sit in ambiguity on the beach with no one paying attention to me. If I go out to the raft then people will be watching my every move. They’ll see me stumble climbing up the steps. They’ll see me picking at the wedgie my swimsuit has given me. And then they’ll see me slip as I go to dive off and into the water.

I have made it a goal in life to never be the star of someone else’s viral video, and as far as I know right now I am succeeding. And if I want it to stay that way then I have to stay off the rafts, even life rafts.
