One of the biggest fears that Marvel fans have about Disney acquiring the Fox licensed Marvel characters is that the Mouse House may sanitize them to the point of being unrecognizable. These reservations are going to be tested by a PG-13 recut and re-release of this past summer's Deadpool 2, which almost seems to be an experiment in determining if fans will turn out for future PG-13 adventures from the Merc with a Mouth.
We finally have some details on this upcoming release and while they may not do much to assuage the fears of some fans, this experiment isn't quite as sinister as it may once have seemed. According to Deadline, Fox will be releasing the recut film titled "Once Upon a Deadpool" for 12 days in December starting on the 12th.
The film will feature a newly shot framing sequence that mocks The Princess Bride, complete with Fred Savage returning to his childhood bed so Grampa Deadpool can tell him a story. Furthermore, there's a charity involved with this re-release...
There’s a major charity component to the limited-engagement release, too, as Reynolds explained to Deadline that for every ticket sold $1 will go to the audaciously named F-ck Cancer campaign, which will be temporarily renamed “Fudge Cancer” for the purpose of tie-in fundraising effort.
PG-13 ratings? Money going to charity? Man alive, they've already corrupted Deadpool. I can't even imagine what those more cynical than I are going through right now. Once Upon a Deadpool will be in theaters from December 12-24.
