In the 20 odd years since Batman: The Animated Series swept across televisions in those crucial after school hours of the 90s, its reputation has only grown as one of—if not the—best Batman adaptations of all time. I love that this new Honest Trailer from the good folks over at Screen Junkies reminds us of how great the show was, and how most every adaptation of the character since—animated or otherwise—has been a pale imitator.
The show's myth has only grown in the ensuing years, as one Batman after another has come along and ultimately disappointed us. There's been nothing in animation that even comes close to rivaling this, except maybe that brilliant third season of The Brave and the Bold.
Think about all that BTAS gave us: You've got Kevin Conroy doing the husky Batman voice a decade before Bale did it. You've got the bitchiest Alfred ever with all his snarky witticisms and what not. And you've got the best Joker of all time courtesy of Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.
The video covers all of this and more, from the unbeatable Rogues Gallery to the terrible marksmanship that defined nearly every single one of Batman's encounters with a villain. It's a great trip down memory lane just in time for the complete series to be released on Blu-ray today.
