The first season of American Gods—while lacking a bit of the substance of the book on which it was based—was a mostly good time with lots of insane things never seen on television before. The Starz series isn't returning for an overdue second season until next year—the first season ended in the summer of 2017—but we finally have our first look at the new season coming out of this past weekend's New York Comic Con.

Hearing Crispin Glover says, "The storm is coming" gave me chills because if there's one thing I love, it's the threat—nay, the promise—of more Crispin Glover. Let's face it, the star of the show, Ricky Whittle, isn't the most capable actor around, and scenes that rely on him to carry them are often the weakest in the series. Thankfully he's surrounded by an ace supporting cast including Ian McShane, Orlando Jones, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, and the incredible Yetide Badaki.

The only thing that makes me apprehensive about the new season is the absence of its creator, Neil Gaiman, who has jumped over to Amazon to showrun the upcoming adaptation of his book Good Omens. The author retains an Executive Producer credit on the series, but his involvement with the show's second season will be minimal.
