The new flick The Girl in the Spider's Web is sure to disappoint devotees of David Fincher's 2011 adaptation of the first book in the Lisbeth Salander series. Neither Fincher nor stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are returning for this new Salander-centric adaptation, with 2013's Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez behind the camera and The Crown's Claire Foy stepping into the role of Lisbeth Salander.

This reboot's cast is pretty stellar, however, with Foy's co-stars including Sylvia Hoeks (Luv from Blade Runner 2049), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Sorry to Bother You), and Stephen Merchant (Logan, Hello Ladies). Locke and Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight is one of the film's credited writers, and Fincher does retain an Executive Producer credit on this one, meaning he had at least some say in what direction this film goes.

It's doubtful that this film lives up to Fincher's, but that's a tall order for any film. This one has some interesting things going for it, not least of which is the fact that this particular book in the series hasn't been adapted yet. Having not read it, I'm intrigued by the possibilities for this story.

What do you guys think? Have you read the book? Are you excited for this or apathetic toward its existence? Sound off in the comments section below.

The Girl in the Spider's Web opens on November 9 opposite The Grinch and Overlord.
