FUNNY

While he certainly wasn't the first to criticize the Star Wars prequels, Red Letter Media's Mr. Plinkett turned it into an art form with his videos that broke down the major issues with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Now he's back with his review of The Last Jedi, and while there's some vintage Plinkett bits in there, it's mostly a somber and unfunny takedown of a film that deserved much worse from these guys.
I'm not sure if they were holding back or just too angry to make this one as funny as the others, but it's a real letdown for me that there's no random non-sequiturs or musical cues and, worst of all, only one cat joke. Once upon a time, these videos were endlessly rewatchable not just for their scathing examinations of popular films, but for the inappropriate humor.
I'm not sure why this video lacks these elements almost entirely, but it does, and frankly, they don't raise a ton of valid points against the film. They mostly belabor the same three or four criticisms until they're blue in the face, which means the video should have either been a lot shorter, or the points more pithy and the jokes more frequent.
As a big fan of RLM and Plinkett, I hope this was just a fluke and they get back to more scathingly funny reviews in the future. Much like The Last Jedi itself, this review isn't terrible, but it could have been a whole lot better.
