Nic Cage Will Channel Bogey and Other Hollywood Luminaries in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’

There is no one else in Hollywood quite like Nicolas Cage. Once an acclaimed workhorse actor who won an Oscar and then became one of the most bankable stars in the industry, he's sadly spent the last few years wallowing in the dregs of direct to video nonsense. He's now experiencing something of a renaissance thanks to directors of modestly budgeted indies can afford to employ the actor to totally wig out like he did in days of yore. He's also gotten some superhero redemption this year, thanks to his decision to voice Superman in the sublimely absurd Teen Titans GO! to the Movies, and also his appearance as one of the many spidermen that will be featured in December's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Our second greatest member of the Coppola clan—depending upon your power rankings—recently chatted about the weird shit he's getting up to as Spider-Man Noir with Entertainment Weekly, and it's delightfully Cage-ian...

“There are multiple Spider-Men in different dimensions that are kind of colliding together,” says Cage of the movie. “My character’s Spider-Man Noir. He’s really Peter Parker from the ’30s. I tried to channel those noir films with [Humphrey] Bogart, and have those kinds of sounds that he might make with [James] Cagney, or Edward G. Robinson, that kind of way of talking. I tried to give the character that. It was a lot of fun. I think it should be quite funny. The movie definitely has a sense of humor, and that’s a good thing because it’s good for the whole family.”

Anyone else remember the McConaughassaince back in 2012-2013? I smell a Cagesassiance a'comin! Seriously, could he be more of a wacky delight? He's just one of those dudes who has it figured out, finally. No offense to Nic, but he had a legitimate rough patch there with the purchasing of Transylvanian castles and dinosaur skulls, and what have you. But now he seems to get it, photographic evidence of which can be seen above. He's wearing a shirt with his own picture on it. If that guy doesn't have it figured out, I don't know who does.
