After the surprise success of 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney very nearly got into the business of turning some of its most famous amusement park rides into films. Thankfully the god awful Haunted Mansion—released later that same year—ground those plans to a halt.

However, Disney's long term memory is demonstrably worse than its short term memory, so now that most people have forgotten about what a terrible idea this was in the first place, they're reviving it in spectacular fashion. Following a spate of failed revivals like Jon Favreau's Magic Kingdom and Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion, 2019 will bring us the first Disney ride turned film in 16 years with the release of Jungle Cruise.

Emily Blunt and The Rock Johnson are the co-leads for the film, which is certainly taking more than a few visual cues for the characters from John Huston's 1951 classic The African Queen. Blunt and Johnson—ironically two items one might find someone puffing on—created this new teaser as production gets underway under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra, aka the guy who directed all of those subpar Liam Neeson movies like Non-Stop, Run All Night, and Unknown.

Collet-Serra's luck on the water, however, is much better as he directed the solidly entertaining Blake Lively vs Shark flick The Shallows, which is presumably how he landed this gig in the first place. I don't know if this flick will be any good, but they couldn't have found two better, more charismatic leads. Let's hope their charm is enough to carry the film in the same way Johnny "Lord of Accessorizing" Depp did for the original PotC film.

Jungle Cruise charts a course for adventure on October 11, 2019.
