Three years ago, Argentine-born French director Gaspar Noé (Irreversible) brought his explicit 3D film Love to Cannes and was met with equal parts adoration and revulsion. This year, he brought his latest film, Climax, to the festival and it's getting some of the best reviews of his career.

Billed as a spiritual cousin to his 2009 film Enter the Void, Climax concerns a group of dancers who gather for a party and enjoy a Sangria that's been spiked—depending upon your interpretation of the film—with either hallucinatory drugs or something that's going to kill them all.

Noé has also landed his biggest star since nabbing Monica Bellucci and Vincent Kassel for Irreversible, as Atomic Blonde co-star Sofia Boutella plays one of the dancers. The rest of the cast is made up of mostly unknowns, a common trend with Noé as nearly none of his actors want to work with him a second time.

Noé's films are most assuredly not for everyone, so if this one doesn't look all that intriguing to you, I would recommend you just avoid the rest of his oeuvre. Word on the street is that A24, the studio behind Moonlight and Room, is looking to acquire the film for a North American release later this year. Check your local listings before heading out to the theater.
