Grab the Aqua Net and your finest windbreaker pants, because Wonder Woman's going to the 80s, y'all.
That's right, kids. Patty Jenkins went to CinemaCon this week to talk about the upcoming sequel, and about all she would say was that it was going to be set in the 80s. The rest was a bunch of mumbo jumbo about characters growing and changing only to succeed in the end.
According to Comic Book Movie, Jenkins showed up at the event—where footage from both Aquaman and Shazam was shown—and confirmed the 80s setting for Wonder Woman 2, and literally nothing else.
So, with Kristen Wiig signed on to play the heavy, I would imagine they're going more kitschy 80s than buttoned down latter day Cold War espionage stuff that your dad really digs, but puts the rest of us right to sleep. Had the DCEU proper under the direction of Zack Snyder continued, I might buy it, but I expect this movie will be The United Colors of Benetton: The Motion Picture.
Then again, never put anything past Patty Jenkins. She delivered, under the most pressing circumstances imaginable, a damn fun and enjoyable movie that managed to appeal to just about everyone. I figure we're guaranteed more of the same, at the very least, so let's wait and see.
