Undeniably one of the best of Pixar's many great films remains Brad Bird's 2004 superhero comedy The Incredibles. Though ostensibly aimed at the under ten set, it was a sly family film that virtually everyone across the elusive four-quadrants—male & female, young & old—could enjoy. The film didn't need a sequel, but we're getting one, and thanks to the return of Brad Bird and virtually the entire creative team behind the first one, there's at least hope that it will defy expectations.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't liked a Pixar sequel outside of the Toy Story franchise. You can keep all three Cars films, Monsters University is cute but horribly lame, and I found Finding Dory to be borderline unwatchable—and that flick had the entire original creative team on board again.

I'm on board for this flick for one reason, and one reason only. Brad Bird. I'm of the belief that he hasn't made a bad movie, but even if you didn't like Tomorrowland, you've got to at least admit that he's never made a bad animated movie. The odds are in our favor that this will turn out just fine, and we'll all be singing his praises come June. But there's some little voice in the back of my head telling me it's going to be underwhelming. It's there for you too isn't it? Does it tell you to kill people too? I mean, not too. Nevermind.
