The first few teaser trailers for the upcoming Karate Kid reboot, Cobra Kai, have been light on plot, but this new trailer finally gives us a sense of the scope and the story this new series is going to tell. William Zabka and Ralph Macchio are back in their iconic respective roles as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, and time hasn't been kind to either of their characters.

I must admit, I'm more than a little impressed by the role reversal they seem to be engineering here. If Daniel is now the prick and Johnny is the down on his luck guy in need of redemption, I think it's a brilliant twist. I'm still not subscribing to YouTube Red in order to watch it, but I'll at least give them credit for what they're attempting to do. Revitalizing a series after all these years by role reversing the original protagonist and antagonist isn't the worst idea anyone's ever had, so let's at least give them to benefit of the doubt.

On top of all that is the fact that William Zabka is, allegedly, one of the nicest dudes in Hollywood. I've heard many stories of encounters with him that were all exceedingly positive, so it'll be nice for him to get a chance to be the hero for once. Hopefully. Cobra Kai premieres on YouTube Red on May 2.
