With advanced ticket sale for Avengers: Infinity War underway, we can now confirm the film's running time, and it's a long one. But not as long as some. Captain America: Civil War's 147 minute running time is currently the longest in the MCU, and Infinity War will break the record by nine minutes, clocking in at 156 minutes. This makes it longer than the BvS theatrical cut by five minutes, but nine minutes shorter than The Dark Knight Rises. For more recent examples, it's five minutes longer than The Last Jedi and eight minutes shorter than Blade Runner 2049.
Now, no comic book movie has ever been bad because of its length. Fant4stic was laughably short for an origin story, but that wasn't why it was a bad movie. Similarly, Batman v Superman's main problem isn't that it's two and a half hours, but it's definitely a contributing factor to its overall failure as a film. I mean, at the end of the day, it's only ten minutes longer than Civil War, so maybe don't buy a soda. Or check RunPee or whatever it's called now. That's what I do, what with my old man bladder.
At the end of the day, it's not going to hurt the film's bottom line. It may tank the desire of some fanboys to see it multiple times—I have yet to see a Marvel movie more than once in the theater—but nobody's staying home because it's a little more than two and a half hours. Based on the advanced ticket sales thus far, it's not even a factor. Avengers: Infinity War opens April 27, technically April 26 at 7pm.
