Jon Favreau's career has seen him succeed as an actor, writer, director, and producer, and now he's used all of that cred to land a job with Lucasfilm. As part of Disney's push to create new original content for their upcoming streaming service launching next year, they've brought Favreau on to write and executive produce the first live action Star Wars television series.
Favreau is currently knee-deep in his Jungle Book follow-up The Lion King, due in theaters next summer, but obviously his prior work with Disney has proven him reliable enough to take the reigns on this new venture for Star Wars. For his part, Favreau is thrilled by the prospect of working on this new series...
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
While there are no details to report on the type of content the series will feature, Favreau has apparently been given creative control on the series and will oversee and hire writers and directors for the various episodes—presumably after helming the first episode himself. It's gonna be interesting, for sure, and I'm eager to see what Favreau cooks up for us.
