One of the better bits of viral marketing for Thor: Ragnarok involved the god of thunder rooming with a mild mannered Australian guy named Darryl. Well, Darryl fans can rejoice as the office worker has found himself a new roommate in Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster, and it's every bit as delightful as the setup suggests.
Honestly, I could watch Jeff Goldblum riffing and lounging about in those silken robes, metallic blue soul patch, and gold sandals for days. And now that my favorite actor Sam Rockwell is on the precipice of winning his first Oscar, I think it's time to focus our efforts on getting Goldblum one. Yes, he's more prone to show up in big budget movies as the enigmatic weirdo, but I think that if some filmmaker out there can manage to capitalize on his natural abilities and combine it with an Oscar-friendly theme, we'll really have something.
Maybe we could have him play like an esoteric marathon runner with a withered arm or an esoteric politician trying to end apartheid. Something that says, "I really want an Oscar, but I'm willing to earn it, too." The full short film featuring Darryl and Goldblum's Grandmaster will be on the Thor: Ragnarok Blu-ray, releasing two weeks from tomorrow, March 6.
