Since the Venom movie with Tom Hardy was first announced, many people have been wondering if Sony would attempt to tie it in with the current big screen Spider-Man franchise headlined by Tom Holland. I mean, in theory, a Venom movie without Spider-Man seems like a terrible idea, doesn't it? Then it was revealed that the film would be set in San Francisco, a good 3,000 miles away from the current Spidey's address in Queens, leading us to believe this was indeed going to be a Venom movie without Spider-Man.

A story broke earlier this week that Tom Holland was actually going to appear in Venom, leading many to reverse their opinions on the film yet again. According to Comic Book Movie, the man who first scooped the story—The Death of Superman Lives director Jon Schnepp—has now clarified his original statement by going into more detail...

“Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. Ok, so I’m not saying that Spider-Man is in the film. When I say that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying ‘Peter Parker is in the film. This is a cameo. I don’t know what it is. I didn’t read the script.”

Bottom line, Venom is tied to the current Spider-Man film continuity, making it MCU adjacent. That means that should Secret Wars or some other gigantic multi-character Marvel movie be on the horizon, Hardy's Venom could potentially be in the mix. I'm cool with that because eventually, everyone's going to be in the MCU. Might as well get someone like Tom Hardy in there before apathy sets in. Venom opens on October 5.
