Aardman Animation Studios consistently creates some of the best family entertainment around, and their latest looks to be another winning effort from the studio that brought us Wallace & Gromit. Early Man tells the story of a dim but courageous prehistoric hero named Dug (everyone's favorite fancy lad Eddie Redmayne) who discovers that society outside of his village is progressing into the Bronze Age.
If you've never seen an Aardman effort on the big screen—Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep, Pirates: Band of Misfits—I would recommend giving it a whirl, even if you're not a parent. These are very dry British comedies, heavily inspired by Monty Python, with some of the most loving animation imaginable. Seeing their films on the big screen also allows you to see fingerprints every so often as these are all clay figures posed by hand for stop motion. It's pretty great.
So give it a whirl, just go in the evening so you're not the creepy guy with no kids at the Saturday matinee, if you know what I mean. Early Man opens in UK Cinemas on January 26, followed by a North American release on February 16.
