I've always been a fan of Jack Black, as he strikes me as one of those dudes that just doesn't care how bad the material he's working with is, he's gonna do his best to sell it. His latest flick is The Polka King, a Netflix Original Film based on the true story of a Polish immigrant who won over elderly folks with his mad polka skills, only to dupe them out of their money in bogus investment schemes.
It sounds crazy, but there's a documentary all about it titled The Man Who Would Be Polka King, and it's all true. The film co-stars SNL alums Jenny Slate and Vanessa Bayer, along with Jason Schwartzman, Jacki Weaver, Willie Garson, and the always hilarious J.B. Smoove. The film is being written and directed by husband and wife team Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky, comedy veterans who cut their teeth on The Larry Sanders Show and The Simpsons, respectively.
Look at it this way, it's on Netflix, it's not gonna cost you anything but your time if it's terrible, and I think that with this kind of pedigree in front of and behind the camera, it's gotta be better than average. The Polka King premieres on Netflix January 12.
