If you were to ask me what the best big screen adaptation of The Fantastic Four was, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to say The Incredibles. Same with Watchmen and maybe even most Bond movies as well. Brad Bird's first outing with Pixar proved to be one of the best and most inspiring animated films ever made. And we're finally getting a sequel next summer, fourteen years after the original.
Obviously, this teaser doesn't spoil much as it's purely promotional, but it does at least confirm the rumors that the film will pick up immediately after the events of the first film, so Jack-Jack's still a baby and Dash and Violet are still kids. Whether or not it will actually pick up where the first one ended, with them about to do battle with "The Underminer," remains to be seen, however. I mean, if they're going for the Fantastic Four vibe, why not battle this world's version of Mole Man?
Despite the tepid reaction to Bird's last film, Tomorrowland, I think Incredibles 2 will be another home run for both him and Pixar. Granted their track record with sequels is pretty spotty—if you ask me, Toy Story's their only franchise with good sequels—but I feel like they wouldn't have done this if they didn't have a good story. The Incredibles 2 opens on June 15, 2018.
