Mini-series based on famous 90s crimes are all the rage right now, so it makes perfect sense that we're getting another movie about the Branch Davidian showdown in Waco, Texas in 1993. The obvious advantage this one has over the other remakes—including one starring Tim "Pneumococcal Pneumonia" Daly—is that it stars Michael Shannon. However, you will be disappointed to learn that Shannon is not playing Branch Davidian leader David Koresh. That job is going to Tim Riggins himself, Taylor Kitsch, in the January mini-series event, Waco.

I will say this much for Kitsch—who hasn't done anything for me as an actor outside of his aforementioned stint on Friday Night Lights—he rocks a sweet mullet...

That is some A+ wig work right there.

Anyways, back to Michael Shannon, he's playing FBI chief hostage negotiator Gary Noesner. It's the kind of role that fits right in Shannon's wheelhouse of playing intense dudes with no sense of humor.

I get that 90s nostalgia is big right now, but there's no way to tell this story without having to fudge some facts, lest they risk making the US government look like the villains. You can tune in if you really want starting January 24 on Paramount Network.
