Back when it was announced that Sony and Marvel Studios had worked out a deal to bring Spider-Man to the MCU, everyone hoped that Fox would follow suit and allow mutants and fantastic foursomes into the MCU as well. As it turns out, this was more than just a pipe dream as Fox has actually held discussions with Disney about buying out it's film studio, 20th Century Fox.
According to CNBC, Fox's parent company is toying with the notion of selling off its film division to Disney so that Fox could focus exclusively on sports and "news." This, of course, means that mutants and all the other Marvel characters tied up in Fox's deal could come back under Marvel's umbrella, allowing virtually every one of their comic book characters to share the screen together.
While this is obviously far from a done deal, the fact that they've at least discussed it makes me think that this is why Marvel has been staying mum on their plans beyond Avengers: Infinity War. With X-Men, Silver Surfers, Doctors of Doom, and other potential characters now on the table, keeping their mouths shut may be the best way to not have to backtrack on any plans down the road. We'll keep you up to date on this story as new developments occur. If this deal does go through, though, let us know in the comments section below which Marvel characters you want to see interact with one another on the big screen!
