J.K. Simmons is one of our greatest living character actors. He put such a stamp on the role of J. Jonah Jameson that no one else has dare tried it since. He played Schillinger on Oz, won an Oscar for slapping Miles Teller, and is best friends with Hank Mardukas. I'm willing to watch anything he does—outside of that stinker The Snowman—which makes me the perfect target for the new Starz seriez Counterpart.
The series—created by 2016's Jungle Book screenwriter Justin Marks—features Simmons as a low-level employee working for the UN who discovers his bosses are protecting a portal to a parallel dimension. Counterpart, I imagine, then refers to your "other" in the parallel dimension. Probably, who knows? It could be anything.
It's got a solid cast including Rushmore's Olivia Williams, Wolf of Wall Street's Kenneth Choi, and the guy who played the Amish mafia godfather on Banshee. Anyone? Ah well, he's great. He's kind of a discount Stellan Skarsgard. Did I lose you again? Sorry, I tend to do that. Counterpart premieres on Starz in January, so you've got a little over two months to figure out how the hell you're going to watch it.
