‘The Simpsons’ Celebrate 25 Years of “Homer at the Bat” with New Mockumentary (VIDEO)

Get ready to feel old as dirt. Now in its 29th season, The Simpsons have cooked up a tribute to one of their best episodes celebrating its 25th anniversary this year: "Homer at the Bat." The episode—where Mr. Burns brings in professional baseball players as ringers for a softball game—featured some of the biggest names in baseball at the time from future legends like Ken Griffey, Jr. and Mike Scioscia to players that time forgot like Steve Sax and Don Mattingly. Honestly, beyond his failed attempts to manage several teams now, the only reason anyone remembers Mattingly anymore is because of Mr. Burns' incessant demanding of him to shave his sideburns. 

The third season episode is now getting a tribute in the current season with "Springfield of Dreams," a mockumentary about the whole fictional incident. The weird thing is that they chose not to animate the players who are participating—along with Joe Buck for some reason—so it bounces back and forth between animation and live action. Maybe it was cheaper that way, but it's jarring to see Wade Boggs and Jose Canseco intercut with Comic Book Guy and Homer himself. And please tell me nobody went to Roger Clemens' house to dig him up for this.

Oh well, at least they're trying something new-ish. I guess. Ah, who am I kidding, The Simpsons did it already. Several times before, actually. "Springfield of Dreams" airs this Sunday night on Fox, provided it doesn't get preempted by football.
