Spoiler alert: Superman's back in the opening seconds of the new—and allegedly final—trailer for next month's Justice League. I guess it was never much of a surprise that Supes would be back for the first on-screen team-up of the Justice League, especially considering they've already begun ret-conning things in the DCEU.
I must say, though, this is the first trailer where I'm beginning to get a sense of how they've really shifted things tonally from the grimdark BvS into a slightly more well-lit cgi extravaganza. I keed. Joss Whedon's fingerprints are starting to emerge, however, and the Zack Snyder-ness of it is beginning to fade a bit. One thing I really like about what I'm seeing is that the heroes look appropriately heroic and larger than life in the way that DC has always done in their comics. Where Marvel is truly interested in the humanity of most of these heroes, DC has thought of superheroes more as gods on earth, and this flick really looks to capture that.
Provided they can keep this behemoth under two and a half hours, I'm willing to give Justice League the benefit of the doubt. My expectations for DC movies and Zack Snyder movies bottomed out long ago. I'm going into this thing with my eyes open, but I must admit a twinge of hope that they really nail it. Justice League opens on November 17.
