When all is said and done, I doubt the one thing that no one will be able to say about Kingsman: The Golden Circle is that it didn't have more elaborate set pieces and characters than the first one. One of the most charming things about 2015's Kingsman: The Secret Service was that it was a fairly low stakes affair. Sure the end of the world was on the table and all, but it wasn't bogged down by a jet-setting plot or anything that could be deemed "safe." It was actually more interested in establishing the rules of a new universe and setting up the character of Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton.
Now that all that stuff is out of the way, it looks like the upcoming follow-up Kingsman: The Golden Circle is ready to jet-set and bring us a whole bunch of new characters. The only potential problem is running into more set-up and exposition as new characters are introduced. I'm intrigued by the notion of seeing the Kingsman equivalents in the U.S. and elsewhere, but I'm also dreading a Fantastic Beasts-esque level of explaining the difference between the way things are done in England vs. The U.S.
It does look like a lot of dumb fun, though, which is what made the first flick so good. It knew it was all kind of dumb but it had a lot of fun with it. Fingers crossed for more of the same in that regard. Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens on September 22.
