I'm a big fan of the fine arts, especially painting. Whenever I go to a new city I always make a point to go to the local art museum to see what they have. I live in New York City which has some of the finest paintings in the world. Without a doubt one of the most exciting painters to come on the scene in the last few years is former president George W. Bush. I find his paintings to be oddly captivating. Who can forget his series of him in the bathroom or his several paintings on dogs. But it is perhaps as a portrait artist that the "Decider" truly finds his calling. He did a series on the world leaders he got to know in his 8 years as president and his own self portraits are truly remarkable. When asked what the secret of painting portraits is, Bush said:
"Never paint your wife or your mother. First thing I wanted to make sure is that I got the noses right."
Good rules. People are surprised that this unpopular president can paint as well as he can. As he said, "People are surprised. Of course, some people are surprised I can even read." Indeed. I await his next paintings with great anticipation.
