If you were looking for a movie to go see with your dad or grandpa this weekend, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is probably your best option. The AARP has officially declared the film old people-friendly by giving it their inaugural "Movies for Grownups" seal of approval.
Why? Well, here's the official explanation from AARP Media senior VP and editorial director Myrna Blyth:
Returning the beloved Tom Clancy character of Jack Ryan to the big screen, the film features performances by 50+ talents including director and co-star Sir Kenneth Branagh and co-star Kevin Costner. We believe the film will hold strong appeal for the 50+ demographic, which is responsible for one in four of all opening weekend ticket sales.
So you see it's really very simple. Old people like watching old people. As for Chris Pine and Keira Knightly—better known to the AARP's constituents as that kid from Star Wars and the girl from the pirate movie—apparently they're tolerable.
In any case, if the AARP likes Shadow Recruit, they're going to f**king go nuts for Expendables 3. The average age of that cast is pushing 65.
