Okay, let's take a break from all the Marvel and DC casting rumors and talk about something that's actually been made official—namely, the fact that Michael Cera has signed on for a new FX comedy called How & Why created by Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman.
We actually told you this show was happening a long, long time ago—before there was even an Avengers: Age of Ultron or a Batman vs. Superman to worry about. It's about some genius science nerd who knows everything about nuclear physics but is clueless when it comes to life outside the lab. However, if you know anything about Kaufman, who is behind such cerebral pictures as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation, then you know this won't be your typical Chuck Lorre "haha it's funny 'cause they're nerds!" fare. This show should be pretty quirky and interesting, so who better to star than the quirky kid who got his start in Arrested Development?
That being said, Cera won't actually be playing the lead character. That honor falls on John Hawkes, who received an Oscar nomination in 2011 for Winter's Bone. Instead, according to THR, Cera will be playing Hawkes's boss at the local TV station where he has a science show called—obviously—How & Why.
There's no word yet on when How & Why will actually air, but production is scheduled to begin in this spring in North Carolina. So stay tuned.
