Had enough yet of superhero movies? Well then, how about a supervillain movie?
Yes, it is a brilliant idea. However, I can't take the credit. This one is all Sony. On the heals of the release of the first trailer for next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, they've announced two supervillain spinoffs. One will be about Venom (who non-comic book nerds will remember from Spider-Man 3, a.k.a. the crappy one), and one about "The Sinister Six" (who are Doc Ock, Vulture, Electro, Kraven, Mysterio, and Sandman).
Oh, and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will come out in 2016.
Writing the screenplay for Venom will be Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Ed Solomon, while Drew Goddard will write and maybe even direct The Sinister Six.
Sony explains, "we have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films." But that's just industry mumbo jumbo. The important thing here is that, for the first time ever, we'll get full-lenth feature films about bad guys. Which is awesome.
