A deleted scene from Return of the Jedi makes Obi Wan Kenobi look like less of an ass. The outtake was included on a laserdisk copy of Return of the Jedi from the 80's that someone named Editdroid is ripping for our viewing pleasure. The scene is part of Yoda's death scene in which he confirms the identity of Luke's father and hints at there being another Skywalker. The new revelation comes when Yoda tells Luke that Obi Wan would have told him the truth about his family but Yoda didn't let him. This clears up a big problem I've always had with these movies. Yoda and Obi Wan basically lied and manipulated Luke into doing their will. They knew Luke would be conflicted about killing Darth Vader for them if he knew that Vader was his father. So, they just let him believe that not only were they not related but that Vader had killed his dad. That's a motive for murder if there ever was one.

The only issue is that Yoda is still a dick for actively trying to keep the truth from Luke. It's one thing to omit information and quite another to create a conspiracy of lies to keep a young man in the dark. And Obi Wan looks a little more sympathetic but weak. Why didn't he stand up to Yoda and say, "No, you little green turd, I'm not keeping this information from Luke"? Ultimately, Obi Wan is as complicit in the cover-up as Yoda is. I guess our heroes eventually let us down.
