Thankfully, Relativity Media Is No Longer Making a ‘Stretch Armstrong’ Movie

Two years ago, in the middle of the 'Let's Make Movies Out of Toys and Boardgames' craze, Relativity Media and Hasbro announced the worst idea in Hollywood history since someone let Orson Welles near an open bar: a 'Stretch Armstrong' movie. In defiance of money-grubbing bad taste -- today they announced that the project is not going to happen. It was supposed to hit theaters in early 2014, but it never went into production.

Relativity said in a ridiculous statement via Hollywood Reporter:

Stretch Armstrong is an incredible character who will make an amazing movie, and we know that Hasbro has some new ideas they are looking at. Relativity and Hasbro have a tremendous relationship, and we decided to focus on other projects. We look forward to continuing to work together.

For those of you out of the loop: Stretch Armstrong is an action hero doll first launched by Hasbro in the '70s and eventually re-launched in the '90s. He, was, um, stretchy. His maker, Hasbro, has been trying to make the whole movie-thing happen since at least 2008 when Universal agreed to make one with Taylor Lautner. Again, thankfully, that project also didn't happen.
