‘The Simpsons’ Gets a 26th Season (And ‘Lucky 7’ Won’t Get a Third Episode)

Fox has announced that The Simpsons will be coming back for a 26th season. This will take the iconic cartoon, which is already the longest-running scripted show in prime-time television history, past the quarter-century mark. This will also make the cast of ABC's Lucky 7, which was cancelled after its second episode, feel really, really bad.

'It's one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I'm looking forward to yet another landmark season,' said Kevin Reilly, chairman of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting. Reilly then put on a jet pack he paid for using Simpsons' money and used it to fly to his solid-gold mansion on the moon.

The announcement ends speculation that this season would be the Simpsons' last. Executive producer Al Jean has stated that 30 seasons 'is a goal to shoot for.' But if producers are interested in making The Simpsons the longest running show of all time, they still have a long road ahead, as Meet the Press is currently in its 66th year with no signs of stopping.
