How many bikers have been run over when they took a ride at night? I don't have the figures, but I'd say it's one biker too many. Now, reflectors could help make other motorists aware that you're there, riding alongside them, when it's dark out. But as an added safety precaution, you could also make sure you've got a bike that's been geared up for the occasion, like the Pure Fix Glow Bike.
These bikes are minimalist in design but they might just save your life, thanks to one important feature: they glow in the dark.
The Pure Fix Glow Bike is actually painted all over with solar-activated glow in the dark paint. Just put it out during the day to take in the sun's rays, so it's all bright and glowing by the time you take it out for a ride at night. One hour of daylight equals one hour of nighttime glow, so it shouldn't be hard to do the math to know how long you should keep the bike outside.
The bikes have been designed for urban flat roads and are equipped with front caliper brakes and 700x28 tires. There are three varieties available: the Hotel, which has glow-in-the-dark wheels; the Kilo, which has a glow-in-the-dark frame; and the Zulu, which glows in its entirety.
