Back in the early days of The Simpsons, Fox decided to do a crossover episode to promote their new show, The Critic. Creator Matt Groening pitched a fit over what he felt was a cheap ploy, and removed his name from the credits of the episode "A Star Is Burns" in protest. But next fall, when Fox airs a Simpsons-Family Guy crossover, he won't have to worry about his name on the credits, since this time it's the Simpsons who will be appearing on another cartoon.
In the episode, the Griffins end up visiting Springfield where Peter and Homer quickly hit it off. But their new friendship is derailed by a Pawtucket vs. Duff beer feud. Hilarity ensues.
Honestly, I haven't watched The Simpsons in years, but I'm still excited to see this. Is it cheesy? Yes. But any talk of "cheapening" a franchise that's been on 14-years past its prime is sort of irrelevant. So do what you feel, Fox!
