When I first read that Mark Sanchez said that the New York Jets 'love' their chances at the playoffs, I immediately thought he was looking forward to an early vacation. Then I thought maybe he was still reeling after getting flattened by his own lineman's ass.The Jets are 4-7 and currently eleventh in the AFC. Only six teams from each conference get to the playoffs, so they have some work to do. But if you look at their schedule, they play only teams with losing records the rest of the way.
First up for the Jets are the losers of seven straight, the Arizona Cardinals. It's a home game for the Jets, so they should be able to pull out a win against rookie QB Ryan Lindley. After that, the Jets hit the road to Jacksonville, who are suddenly looking a lot better and aren't a guaranteed win. The next week is another road test, this time against a better than their 4-7 record Tennessee Titans. Again, not an easy win, especially on the road.
The last two games are at home with the San Diego Chargers, who can look great at times, but pathetic at others. The Jets should be able to win that at home, especially when it will be cold in New York and warm weather teams struggle in that kind of weather for the most part. The Jets finish off with a road game in Buffalo, which should be bone-chilling cold and anything but an automatic win.
On one hand, what else is Sanchez supposed to say? That yes, their season is done and he can't wait to get to his vacation? On the other, there's a way to say you think your team can pull it together and rip off a string of wins without making yourself sound like a deluded buffoon. I swear I'm not turning this place into an anti-Jets site, but they just make it so easy.
