Pirate Bay’s Founder Gets Nabbed in Cambodia

A DDoS attack brought down Demonoid last month. If you're familiar with the BitTorrent scene, then you know that Demonoid was one of the best trackers that hosted files that are pretty hard to find. The Pirate Bay was shut down for the good part of Wednesday last week after it encountered similar attacks. The site is now back online, though, and it looks like things are okay (for now.)

We can't say the same for the Pirate Bay's founder, though. Gottfrid Svartholm didn't make an appearance in Switzerland to hear his case after he was sentenced to serve twelve months in jail for setting up the Internet's most prominent torrent index. He was arrested in his apartment in the Phnom Pehn, the capital of Cambodia, last Thursday.

Svartholm's lawyer Ola Salomonsson doesn't know why his client was arrested, although he assumes it might be related to the Pirate Bay case. (No duh--you think?) Svartholm has been fined $1.1 million on top of his impending jail sentence.

I guess the lesson here is: Don't create torrent sites that will piss off huge companies who will stop at nothing to hunt you down so they can put you behind bars. Really. Because you just might end up regretting it.
