New Boston Celtic Jason Terry hasn't ever been shy about showing people how he feels. The dude went and got a tattoo of the NBA championship trophy on his arm before the 2011 season. He followed that up by helping the Dallas Mavericks win the title that year. Then just recently, he added the Celtics leprechaun to his ink. Half cool, half kind of crazy at the same time, but it's his arm.
Now Terry is hoping that Dallas will retire his #31 jersey. Why? Because he helped take the Mavs to two NBA finals, and was a major contributor on the 2011 championship winning squad.
When you start talking about a jersey in the rafters and stuff like that, he took us to the Finals and was the first point guard to do it, and all those consecutive 50-game seasons,'' Terry said. "And then finally winning the championship.
The credentials are there. Now whether or not that happens, only God knows.
I like Jason Terry. The guy has always been a solid player and he's going to help Boston stay relevant after losing Ray Allen. But I think Jason is a little delusional. If winning 50 games a bunch of times and winning one championship are the credentials to get someone's jersey retired, then teams would be running out of numbers. Robert Horry has 7 (!) championship rings. Nobody is retiring his number. Derek Fisher has five with the Lakers. His jersey won't be retired.
I have a better idea. Jason can just get his Mavericks jersey tattooed on his body, then it'll be sort of like it got retired.
