Jacksonville Jaguars Might be Losing Their Mojo for a Little While

Uh-oh, there's trouble in Florida and this isn't good for the Jacksonville Jaguars or Maurice Jones-Drew. ESPN is reporting that Jones-Drew isn't going to report to training camp because he wants a new deal. New Jags owner Shad Khan says no deal is going to be made and that the club will fine MJD the max of $30,000 per day that he misses. Ouch.

It's tough for these NFL guys. They want long term deals, but if they get one and then go out and rack up ridiculous numbers, they want bigger deals. Mojo still has two years left on a 5 year, $31 million contract. But in the first three years of that deal, MJD has run for more than 1,300 yards each season and led the league last year with 1,606 rushing yards.

So what does owner Khan say? Sorry Maurice, you already have a contract.

Khan told the Florida Times-Union that he doesn't think he needs to do anything.

It's his choice. There's been very little for us to do rather than wait on whatever he might choose to do.

I can see it from both sides, but it looks like Khan might be in the right here. But if Khan wants to show the fans that he's committed to winning he should reconsider and give MJD what he's shown he's worth to the team and the franchise.

And if Jones-Drew wants to see what happens to running backs who hold out, he just needs to check out what happened to Chris Johnson in Tennessee last season. Johnson had two great years, including a 2,000 yard season in 2010 and then wanted a new deal before last season. He held out and had his worst year as a pro, signing right before the regular season began. MJD should show up and then try to negotiate without missing time and losing money in fines along the way.
