It's not like this game was going to be close, but the USA Men's Olympic basketball team obliterated the Dominican Republic squad in an exhibition game last night in Las Vegas.
The final score was 113-59, with the USA scoring more in the second half (63) than the DR scored all night. Kevin Durant came off the bench and led the U.S. team with 24 points, knocking down 5 of his 6 three-point attempts. The three-point line is shorter in international competition than it is in the NBA, so Durant could be filling it up big time in London.
The Dominican team missed out on qualifying for the Olympics, so it's not as if we got a preview of the kind of competition Team USA is going to face in a couple of weeks at the Games. Still, it was a chance to see the guys and how they might look when the real competition starts. Hint: Spain is going to be tough with the Gasol brothers and Serge Ibaka. The U.S. only has one true center, Tyson Chandler, and he specializes in defense.
The USA next takes on Brazil in another exhibition on Monday, then heads to England to get ready for the Olympics.
