Are you ready for more awesome sci-fi action from the Independence Day and Stargate franchises? No official announcements have been made (yet!) but Roland Emmerich, who directed both of these films back in the nineties, recently revealed that both properties could be making their way back to the big screens sometime soon.
We know that sounds really vague, but that's because the plans are still pretty hazy as of this moment. However, Emmerich is optimistic that sequels for both movies will take off as soon as the details are taken care of.
[C]reatively, for the very first time since we did the original, I feel we have a worthy concept, a worthy path to go. Whether or not we can make this happen, if we can get all the pieces to come together, that's gonna be challenging.
-- Roland Emmerich, director
Emmerich is working with screenwriter and producer Dean Devlin, who also said that he thinks they've finally got what Independence Day 2 needs to be a roaring success.
I feel like we got it. I think it took a long time, but I feel like we finally got something that really feels like, 'that's worth seeing as a sequel to Independence Day.' We're beginning a long process of talking to everybody. We'll just have to see what happens.
-- Dean Devlin, screenwriter and producer
Emmerich also explains that he's interested in expanding the Stargate franchise.
Stargate has always had this empty hole. When we made the first one, we always intended on doing part two and three, and we were prevented for years. And our hope is that we can get another chance at Stargate and tell the entire story we wanted to tell.
