It's better to be safe than sorry. And if all it takes is downloading an app on your smartphone to add another lifeline to your, well, life, then why not?

Accidents happen whenever, and the reason they're called an accident is because they're unplanned, unexpected, and certainly not meant to happen. That said, you will never be able to predict them. So what you can do instead is get EmergencyLink to make sure that the right people alerted, if ever you do figure in an accident.

Here's how it works: first, you sign up for an EmergencyLink account and enter your personal and emergency contact information. They will then send you an ID card and key chain tag that you can carry around with you at all times.

Aside from being used by first responders at accidents, EmergencyLink can also be used to locate missing children, help friends who get into accidents, contact co-workers, and share medical information with caregivers.

You can find out more about it by checking out the EmergencyLink site. The best part is that it's free to sign up, so you really have nothing to lose by getting an account.
