Wimbledon Men’s Semi-Final Preview

There is a quiet optimism going around SW19 at the moment that this might finally be the year when a Brit wins a tennis championship. If this does happen then this will be the first time it's occurred in 76 years. No pressure, Andy Murray.

However there is still a very long way to go and with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic still playing some immaculate tennis, it will take an almighty effort from the Scot to beat either competitor. And he still needs to get past 5th seed Wilfred Tsonga too.

This years competition has been rife with incredible encounters, which has included Andy Murray's four set Quarter Final match against David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal's surprise defeat to Lukas Rosol.

But who is the favourite for each semi-final encounter? And will British fans finally be able to savour a Grand Slam victory from one of their own come Sunday?

Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer

It still feels strange not to think of Federer as the favourite going into a championship semi-final, but at the age of 31 "Fed-Ex" has finally begun to show weaknesses. However, Djokovic will still be fully aware of the immense talent that the Swiss genius possesses and if Fed can hit the right balls no one will be able to stop him. Except for Djokovic, who has won four of the last six Grand Slam tournaments on the men's circuit and is playing an unstoppably relentless brand of tennis that no one can match. And I don't expect that to change come Friday. Djokovic in 5.

Andy Murray vs Wilfred Tsonga 

Could he? I mean, really, is there a chance that Murray might finally reach a Wimbledon final? Having booked a place in his fourth consecutive semi-final at the English court with a hard-earned victory over David Ferrer, Murray will go into the semi-final as the slight favourite. And form is on his side too, with Andy having beaten Wilfred on five out of the last six occasions. But Tsonga is a powerful and pummelling player who can overpower any player on his day. However, with Nadal's omission having opened up a window of opportunity for the Scot this could be his year after all. I'm going for Murray in 4.
