Wow, this one is pretty deep and extremely shady. Turns out Mark Jackson, he of the 17-year NBA playing career, NBA broadcasting career, and current head coach of the Golden State Warriors, was targeted in an extortion scheme hatched by an ex-stripper he had an affair with a few years back.
The ex-stripper, Alexis Adams, and ex-convict Marcus Shaw, are accused of trying to get Jackson to pay them a six-figure sum in exchange for not releasing nude pics of Jackson and voicemails he left for Adams during their affair.
According to The Smoking Gun, Adams had pictures that Jackson sent to her during their brief affair about six years ago.
Apparently Shaw approached Jackson in Memphis in April of this year while the Warriors were in town for a game. Shaw showed Jackson a folder with the CD of the voicemails and some copies of some of the pics. After an exchange about making the evidence go away, Jackson paid Shaw $5000 and destroyed the stuff.
But of course, there was more and Shaw wanted more money. But this time, Shaw emailed Jackson's wife of 22 years, writing,
if you want to save yourself unnecessary public humiliation" [she would have to call him so that she could secure] "the first opportunity to buy these photos before I sell them to the public."
That's when Jackson got the FBI involved. After some more back and forth through email, Shaw referenced the $5000 as 'lunch money' and asked 'is that what your life is worth?'
The whole thing is definitely worth a read at The Smoking Gun.
