College football fans are finally getting their wish, now that the college presidents oversight committee approved a new four team playoff system with a championship final game.

A selection committee will choose the final four teams, those semi-final games will played in traditional BCS bowls and then a championship game will be awarded the highest bidding city each year. Of course money is at the root of this, you didn't think it was just finally time to start having an actual national champion, did you?

For whatever reason; tradition, pageantry, whatever you want to call it, the NCAA has never crowned their own champ at the highest level of college football. It was up to polls, two different ones of sports writers in fact, until the creation of the BCS 14 years ago. The system was far from perfect, but at least it usually came close to a real title game in most years.

Every other level of college football has a playoff which is run by the NCAA. The bowl system is fine, don't get me wrong, but there was no reason they couldn't have the bowls while incorporating a playoff system simultaneously. But now they at least have something close to it, even if it's still not really in the NCAA's hands.

The new system will begin in the 2014 season and run at least through 2025. So now instead of hearing teams complain that they were left out of the BCS Championship game, we'll get to hear teams complaining that they didn't get into the final four. At least they're dropping the BCS part of the name.
