On Saturday Sharapova proved just that y easily beating Sara Errani 6-3, 6-2 to win the French Open, the only Grand Slam event she had not won before. With the victory she became the 10th woman to complete the career Grand Slam.
"It's a wonderful moment in my career," the 25-year-old Sharapova told the crowd in French, before switching to English to add: "I'm really speechless. It's been such a journey for me to get to this stage."
Sharapova had gotten out to a quick start winning Wimbeldon at the tender age of 17, the U.S. Open at 18, and the Australian Open at 20. Shoulder surgery in October 2008 held her back for a while, but with her talent winning the final piece of the career Grand Slam was only a matter of time.
