Fans of just about every team other than the four still playing (except maybe the Heat) probably felt their heart skip a beat when they heard that the Zen Master, Phil Jackson, is looking to get back into the NBA again.
If you have watched basketball in the last decade you know who he is and how valuable the man is to his team. His last season in L.A. is an anomaly; the man had already checked out. The dissension that has taken over the Lakers is proof positive of the influence he exerts on his squad. You didn't have all the crap when he was in town (like the Lakers had this past season).
When it comes down to it, where he went championship seasons were soon to follow; never just one--many.
It does appear that he will be returning to the NBA, but not in the capacity that fans would probably like. Rumor has it that he is looking to be in the front office, in a type of position where his Zen mastery can be felt, but he doesn't have to go through the grind that coaches do.
Jackson was linked to the open GM position in Orlando, a move that would likely help keep Dwight Howard in town, but he has already stated that he is not interested in the job. His reason? He decided to go with another opportunity.
Anyone besides me curious as to what that other opportunity is?
