A problem that many sports fans often have at the end of the season—regardless of the sport—is a lack of drama and excitement when it comes to crowning a champion. How many times has the World Series been a blowout? Or the Super Bowl?
That was not the case when it came to naming a champion of the Premier League.
With time running out in their match with the Queens Park Rangers it looked as if it would be a season of close, but no cigar for Manchester City. QPR held a 2-1 lead and was even playing a man short since Joey Barton got booted for throwing an elbow at Carlos Tevez. Just for good measure, Barton attacked Sergio Aguero on his way off the field (just to make sure he deserved the red card).
City had trouble breaking through the defense of the stubborn Rangers, but staged an incredible comeback during injury time in order to earn the win. Edin Dzeko and Aguero both scored goals to give City a 3-2 win. It was Aguero, the son-in-law of the legendary Diego Mardonoa that scored the winning goal.
However, a tie score was not an acceptable option for City. A tie meant that Man United would be celebrating their 20th title since City last won one (back in '68). The win kept the two classic rivals tied in points, but the goal differential gave the title to City.
"Miracles do happen in Machester," said City Captain Vincent Kompany. "This time it's on this side of the road."
