Fiorentina manager Delio Rossi has been sacked by his club after physically abusing his own player in the club's dugout.
Around the half-hour mark Adem Ljajic, a former Manchester United player, was substituted by Rossi during Wednesday's Serie A match against Novara, a team who are second bottom of Serie A, and decided to sarcastically applaud his manager for the decision.
Rossi decided to then drop into the dug-out and attempted to hit the Serbian striker repeatedly before being pulled off the player by numerous players and coaches.
Fiorentina president Andrew Della Valle then dismissed Rossi immediately after the match citing that "I had to make this decision. No provocation justifies the reaction."
Della Valle continued, "I'm sorry for the coach who is a good person and does not deserve it, but tonight he committed a serious act. In a few seconds, months of stress came out. I am sorry because the coach has never committed acts of this kind."
The Fiorentina chairman has also stated that the club "will also take proportionate measures against Ljajic."
The club remain six points about the drop zone, with two matches remaining and they eventually scored two second-half goals to draw the game to remain in 15th place.
