This is how you know the NFL is king of American professional sports; when the schedule for the upcoming season being released is turned into a three-hour ESPN special. Each team's opponents had already been released, but tonight at 7pm Eastern, we'll find out which weeks and what times they'll all meet.
I love the NFL as much as anyone, but this seems a tad over the top. Then again, it's not really that surprising because it really does matter when teams will be matching up. More importantly, for Jets fans, it's time to start guessing when the real quarterback controversy will start.
Guess what? There's not going to be one, at least not early on. Yes, the Jets say they will employ a two QB attack which has already spawned the name 'Sanchebow.'
You don't sign Mark Sanchez to a three year extension through 2016, upping his contract to more than $58 million with $20.5 million guaranteed, to have him ride the pine. Then again, you don't trade for Tim Tebow just for fun and not play him.
Jets coach Rex Ryan told the NFL Network that he can see Tebow getting around 20 snaps a game in the Wildcat sets. Besides killing Sanchez and Tebow for fantasy football purposes (neither are worth drafting, by the way), that would mess up the Jets offensive flow. If they ever have one, that is.
If Ryan is serious, and there's no reason to doubt him, then we are officially looking at the season of 'Sanchebow.' Or at least three games until Sanchez becomes the highest paid backup in the NFL.
