Somewhere at the back of your head, you might be aware of the fact that most of the sites you use or visit keep track of your every move. Your browser's history doesn't count for the reason that this data is stored on your local machine. No, what I'm talking about is the virtual trail that you leave behind while you're checking your email or filling up your shopping cart in an online store.
Normally, users aren't privy to this information, even though they're the ones who generated this data in the first place. However, Google is looking to change this by letting users in on their virtual footprints with Google Account Activity.
This feature will allow Google users to gain access to a password-protected report that contains statistics and insights on their email stats, search queries, and overall usage statistics.
Google's product manager, Andreas Tuerk, gave an example of what users can expect to find out with Account Activity.
"My most recent Activity report told me that I sent 5 percent more email than the previous month and received 3 percent more. An Italian hotel was my top Gmail contact for the month. I conducted 12 percent more Google searches than in the previous month, and my top queries reflected the vacation I was planning: [rome] and [hotel]."
-- Andreas Tuerk, Google product manager
All you have to do is opt in so that Google will go on ahead and generate your first Account Activity report.
